Erik is now in the Mission Field. (South Carolina Columbia Mission) He's new companion is Elder Fowler, and must be quite a missionary according to the word we get from Elder Nystul. If this is so Erik should be well on his way to becoming a successful missionary.

Elder Nystul is now in the Mission Field.(South Carolina Colombia Mission) This is his first companion, Elder Fowler, who is his trainer, and according to Erik, is quite the missionary. What a good break for Elder Nystul. It is so important to have a good first companion. Makes all the difference. There is quite a contrast wouldn't you say?

Erik the Missionary

On October 22, Erik entered into the MTC. He was really ready to go. What a prepared elder he is. It was a busy week what with his farewell at church, dinner with the family, his setting apart as an elder on Oct. 15, and finally his entrance into the MTC. He will be a great missionary.

One thing the MTC President said in his talk to the parents and the missionaries that really impressed me was this: "Mothers don't you worry when you hug your missionary for the last time for 2 years because as he walks through that door he will walk right into the arms of the Savior and you won't have to worry about him." I thought that that was the sweetest thought to give a mother whose son is leaving for a mission that I have ever heard. Erik will be at the MTC for 3 weeks preparing to leave.

Katherine, Franie and Sophie came to stay with us for a few days in August! It was SO nice to have them here. We didn't get to see nearly enough of them, but it was wonderful to have them with us for a little while.

Cole brought Maggie up to Utah to work while they were here, and we had a great time visiting with him as well. It has been such a long time since he and the girls have been to Utah (Unfortunately Annie couldn't come). We missed Marianne being here too. It just didn't seem right somehow.

It will be so nice having Maggie here in Provo. She has lots of friends already, so don't suppose we will see her too often, but maybe she will come for dinner once in a while. A note of interest...Tyler lives in the same housing project that she does, so they get to "hang out" together. Isn't that great? Tyler is going to school now at the new Utah Valley University. He has a job working at Sundance. Wow! Bet he will enjoy that.

Dori and Ken move back!

Dori and Ken and all came back to Utah after a very disappointing move to AZ. Things there weren't what they thought they would be so they moved back. They are staying with us until they find a place to rent. We were so happy to see them again. They are sooooooo happy to be in Utah again.

Ken and Dori and Family move to AZ!

It was a sad day for us on July 29, as Dori, Ken, Kallie, Brianna, Jeddy, and 4 animals left Provo to begin their new life in their new home in Gilbert, Arizona.Their moving van was packed to the limit, with Ken in the drivers seat, and Jeddy riding "shotgun" along side him. Dori, the two girls, 3 cats and Tori, their dog, took off behind them in the van. Dori had a very difficult time leaving when it came right down to it, and it was very difficult for us as well. Suddenly, I could understand why my mother stood crying as Dick and I left to start our new life in California so long ago. It is a traumatic experience! Seems like we have gone through this too many times, and it NEVER gets easier.We all wish them our best, and hope they find happiness and success in their venture. We will miss them!

IT FINALLY CAME!

It finally came after almost a month of anxious waiting. Erik received his mission call to the South Carolina Columbia Mission! He will go into the MTC on October 15.

Erik is ready to go! He is very well prepared, and will be a GREAT missionary. There are people out there waiting for Elder Erik Nystul to teach them the Gospel. We are all very proud of you Erik. Congratulations to Jill and David and family. You have raised a wonderful young man who will contribute a great deal to this world.

Rose Comes to Provo

July 13, Rose Norris, an old friend from California, came to visit us for 4 days. We had a family dinner on Monday and had a great time visiting together. On Tuesday, we took her to see many of the Church places of interest along with Jo Ann, had lunch at the Lion House Pantry, and even got her a copy of some of her geneaology. It was a fun day. We really enjoyed having her as our guest for a few days. She is like family to all of us, as she spent 30 years as the secretary of Warner Electric. She left Thursday morning to go back to Long Beach.

I am a very delinquent blogger who vows to be better. Hang in there, I am trying. I have forgotten just about all I knew about blogging.Time goes by too fast. I thought when you got your family raised and began to get "older" (it's all in your mind) that your life would slow down. Not so!!! I am as busy as I ever was, what with my calling in Young Women's, (Beehive Advisor) all their activities, quilting, sewing for the grandchildren, gardining, golfing, writing, knitting etc.,etc.Well, I guess it is better to be happy being busy than the alternative of not having anything to do. That would indeed be sad.I took a pieced quilting class this spring, and the quilt at the top is the result. It was difficult, and I did some of the blocks over 2 or 3 times, but I FINALLY finished it. I am so happy! I have always wanted to do this. It is fun but a lot of work, as I do the machine quilting myself, and that takes lots of time.

This is my first pieced quilt.

Isn't he a handsome guy? We are all very proud of Tyler. He is now on to bigger and better things. He is going to attend UVSU in the fall, and is rooming with 3 of his buddies from Heber. Have a great life, Tyler!

Some of my thoughts for this beautiful day... Can you believe we started out as two and now almost 56 years later, (January 30) we are 53 AND growing?! Family is certainly what it is all about!!! As I read the blogs of some of the members this family, I am truly amazed as I observe some of their wonderful talents. I love to read what they write because it gives me a small glimpse into their lives. Maybe the rest of you will try this new adventure sometime as well, but in the meantime, I want each one of you to know just how important you are to me and Dad/Grandpa. You are our EVERYTHING! It is wonderful to see how those in our family are living their lives. Oh, there have been a few bumps, scrapes, and bruises here and there, but basically, they are ALL VERY GOOD people who are trying their best to live, love, and learn the things their Heavenly Father wants them to know. Personally, I am looking forward to living with every single one of you for all Eternity. I can't imagine anything but that, and, as we all know, our sweet Marianne is up there waiting for us.
